Merian C. Cooper - probably best known for directing King Kong, a masterpiece of adventure cinema. Before his career in the film industry he organised Polish 7th Air Escadrille, better known as Kosciuszko Squadron, during the Soviet invasion of Poland in 1919. Along with over 20 other American pilots that volunteered to fight the communists, he gunned down and bombed the invading First Cavalry Army of Semyon Budionny. For his valour Józef Piłsudski decorated Cooper with the highest Polish military decoration, the Virtuti Militari. Pictured above - Merian C.
